Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.3-7+squeeze3
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: mijn domein
Akeeba Backup version: Akeeba Backup Core 3.6.5 (2012-09-14)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I have 1 site that is on my local host and also on the web at a provider.
When I make a backup from my localhost then the .jpa file is 10.916kB.
When I make a backup from my provider the .jpa file is 379kB.
I am afraid that I am doing something wrong but all the settings are both the same.

Hi GertJan,

Thank you for your email, your subscription and your ticket! I will need you to send me the backup log file, not the backup archive. In order to do that go to your live site's back-end, click on Components, Akeeba Backup, View Log, select the "Back-end" origin and click on the "Download log file" link. It will download a .txt file. Put this in a ZIP archive, then ZIP and attach it here.

The log file contains a detailed account of everything Akeeba Backup did while trying to backup your site. It will tell me why it doesn't backup any of your files which will allow me to help you fix that.

Hi Nicholas,

I did what you wrote and hope that this is the good file, more I don't have!

OK, that's the correct file. The first thing I want you to check is the location of the temporary and log folder of your site.

Log into the back-end of your site and go to Site, Global Configuration. In the Server tab, take a look at the "Path to Temp Folder". In the System tab take a look at the "Path to Log Folder". Can you copy and paste their contents here? I am sure one of them is wrong, pointing to your site's root instead of the correct directory, causing this issue.

Hi Nicholas,

Hope these are the good ones!

Path to Temp Folder (tmp): /public/sites/www.testgertjan.nl

"Path to Log Folder : /public/sites/www.testgertjan.nl

Bullseye! That's exactly what I mean. Both of those directories point to your site's root (the directory which contains all Joomla! files and directories). This is both insecure and causes problems with your Akeeba Backup. The problem is that Akeeba Backup automatically excludes the contents of the temp and log folder from the backup. Since these are the same as the site's root you've got the non-backup issue.

These settings should in fact read:

Path to Temp Folder (tmp): /public/sites/www.testgertjan.nl/tmp
Path to Log Folder : /public/sites/www.testgertjan.nl/logs

and then your backup will work just fine :)

Hi Nicholas,

And can I change them in the backend of Joomla?
Or do I have to do that somewhere else?

You can change in them in Joomla!'s back-end. You could also edit the configuration.php file directly but I only consider that method a last resort. Joomla!'s interface is easier to grasp and less likely to screw something up ;)

Hi Nicholas,

I changed them in the backend of Joomla and now the backup files are what they use to be.
Had the same problem on another side and solved it the same way!

Thanks for all your help.
