First, please try installing Akeeba Backup Professional 3.4.3. It is compatible with your site. Version 3.2.7 –the one you're using– should only be used on servers using PHP 5.1. You will have to install Akeeba Backup Professional 3.4.3 on top of your existing version, without uninstalling it, twice.

The next step is going into Akeeba Backup's main page and clicking on Files and Directories Exclusion. On the left-hand pane find the row reading "t3-assets". On its left there are three icons. Click the second and third. They will start spinning and within 1-5 seconds they will stop spinning and become yellow. Now retry backing up.

If your backup fails again please go to Akeeba Backup's main page and click on View Log. Select the "Back-end" origin. In the new page click on the "Download log file" link. It will download a .txt file. ZIP that file and attach it to your reply.

The backup is complete but you seem to have a timeout while uploading the backup to Dropbox. You just need to set a smaller part size. Go to Akeeba Backup's Configuration page and find the Archive Engine row. Click on the Configure button next to it. Set the part size for split archives to about half of what you have right now and retry backing up.

thanks for all your help but it still fails even on 2%, the main reason I got it was so backup to the cloud can work do you think I should reduce file size further or could it be something else?

Well, I don't see any errors anywhere in the log file. Do all parts get uploaded to Dropbox?

While you are at it, let's do some proper debugging. First go to your site's Global Configuration and set Debug Site to Yes. Then start a new backup. If it fails, please take a look at your server's error log. This is usually a file called error.log in your administrator directory or something accessible through your site's control panel. Look for PHP fatal errors (not warnings or notices) around the time the backup fails. If there are no PHP errors we will know that something on the server's configuration simply kills off the backup script after a while. If it's a PHP error we can fix the root cause for it.
