According to your log, the backup never finished. I'm surprised that it's listed as OK and then as Obsolete. According to this log file it should be listed as Pending and then as Failed.

Please upgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.6.3 and retry backing up. If your backup fails please ZIP and attach the new log file.

Also check your quota settings. If they are enabled, the completion of newer backups will cause older backup archives to be removed automatically according to your quota settings. The backups whose backup archives were removed will be listed as obsolete. If you have a CRON job running backups every few hours this could explain the Obsolete records.

Hi Nicholas,

I have installed 3.6.3 , and received an message saying my php (5.2.17) is out of date.

But it did make a backup OK. Then the backup turned obsolete - attached links to the screenshots.

Also, I tried to install an extension, and it all just hangs, after some time I gave up as the extension does install with previous versions of akeeba - will look at this again

A few questions:
1. Have you already downloaded the backup archive listed as Obsolete in the screenshot?
2. Did you delete the backup archive listed as Obsolete?
3. Does a backup archive named site-www.stonesailingclub.org.uk-20120907-something.jpa exists in your backup output directory?

Hi Nicholas,

1. The backup that shows obsolete was downloaded as a backup after I upgraded to 3.6.3
2. No, I did not do any deletes
3. The backup does not exist. The output directory I am using is /tmp

Should I rather select the output dir to be: administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup

You actually just told me why you have all those problems:
The output directory I am using is /tmp

This directory's contents are supposed to be automatically deleted in preset intervals. Not a good choice for an output directory, i.e. a directory whose contents must not be deleted! You also gave the solution to yourself:
Should I rather select the output dir to be: administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup

Yes, that's what you have to do :) Actually, this field takes an absolute directory or a preset variable. Just type
[DEFAULT_OUTPUT]
(all caps, include the brackets) and Akeeba Backup will always use the administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup directory under your site's root.
