Joomla! version: 5.2.26
PHP Version 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.0.95-community
Host: http://www.primehosting.co.uk
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.3

Description of my issue: I am getting the message about needing to upgrade to 5.3

My host reports that 5.3 will probably break 50% of websites currently hosted. Is this true?

Trust you had a good holiday, Regards, Geoff

Hello Geoff,

If you have extensions which are not compatible with PHP 5.3, the sites will break. I would suggest switching sites one-by-one, preferably on a test host. I usually try things out by taking a backup of the site with Akeeba Backup, restoring it on a local server running PHP 5.3 (MAMP on Mac, WAMPServer on Windows and older versions of XAMPP on LInux work wonders). When I'm sure nothing breaks badly I do the change on the live site as well.
