Hello Frank,

It looks like your host is halting the backup process before it finishes. This usually happens when there are CPU limits. You can work around by trying to set the following options in Akeeba Backup's Configuration:
- Minimum execution time: 1 seconds
- Maximum execution time: 7 seconds
- Runtime bias: 50%

If this doesn't work, try this:
- Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
- Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, max is less than min)
- Runtime bias: 50%

If all else fails please ZIP and attach the new log file.

Hello Frank,

I have presented two different workarounds above. Please try them. If neither works, please send me the backup log file after applying the second workaround. Your previous log file showed that you had tried neither.

Well, we are actually getting somewhere. You have a very big file in your site's root, an old backup archive named site-localhost-20120829-041236.jpa. Please remove it.

Moreover, I would like you to check how much free space you have on your server. I am under the impression that you might also be running out of disk space – but I can't be perfectly sure just yet.

If the back still fails, please ZIP and attach the new log file.

Hi,
I removed all old backup archive files. 3 days ago I did a backup withou any problems.
But now (after deleting all archive files) the backup fails again.
There are about 9800 MB of free space on the server.
Other limits are
memory_limit: 104M
max_execution_time: 60 Sekunden CPU Zeit, bzw. 120 Sekunden abs. Laufzeit (Strato)
Please Help!

Please go to the Configuration page. Find the Archiver Engine setting. Click the "Configure..." button next to the drop-down list. A new pane opens below. Set the "Part size for split archives" to 5Mb and save the settings. Try a new backup.

If it fails, please also try set:
- Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
- Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, max is less than min)
- Runtime bias: 50%
Based on your log file it seems that you are using something close to 7-5-75 in those settings.

Hi nicholas,

thank's fo the quick answer!
I changed the "Part size for split archives" to 5 MB.
It works!
I will try the backup every day in order to test whether it works constantly.

You're welcome! It actually helped me a lot the fact that you mentioned your host. I have bumped into this strange "5Mb per generated file" limit on this host many times in the past. Information + experience = solution :) I'm glad I could help!
