Description of my issue:
I am going to migrate from 1.5.26 to 1.7 then 1 to 2.5...i have both backup and Admin tools installed...what is the best practice? leave both installed then change version after 1.7 migration? Or, remove both then migrate..
Or what? Please advise...thanks

Migrating from 1.5 to 1.7 and then to 2.5 is an overkill. You can migrate directly from 1.5 to 2.5. After all, 1.7 is dead as a dodo and the recommended migration path is 1.5 to 2.5.

Regarding my software, the question is actually redundant as the migration process does not transfer installed components. After the migration is complete you can install the latest versions of Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools on your Joomla! 2.5 site. At the time of this writing this is Akeeba Backup 3.5.2 and Admin Tools 2.2.10.

thanks for the reply...

i am surprised to hear about direct from 1.5 to 2.5, as everything i am reading (quite a bit) is about 1.5 to 1.7 to 2.5...
Would 1.5 to 2.5 be with jUpgrade?

What about templates...remove then re-install?

You are probably reading outdated information. Some background. When the first migration tutorials appeared we only had Joomla! 1.7. So everything was describing how to migrate from Joomla! 1.5 to 1.7. Then Joomla! 2.5 came out and people told you "well, just migrate to 1.7 and then update to 2.5". Now 1.7 is dead. It is not advisable any more to migrate to 1.7. Just follow the same instructions to migrate to 2.5 directly. jUpgrade supports that for the last 4 months :)

Regarding templates, you need a new template. Joomla! 1.5 templates are not compatible with Joomla! 1.6/1.7/2.5. In every site I have migrated I have installed a new template.
