You have a wrongly set up or unwritable temp-directory in your Global Configuration. Please follow our installation troubleshooting instructions, the passages under the "Checking your temporary directory" header and maybe the "Enable FTP" header too.

Hi Nicholas,
I got the latest Akeeba to install and work, but the links under extend in the back-end are missing, any ideas.

Dave

There is no such menu as "Extend" in Joomla!. Most likely you are using a different back-end template, e.g. Mission Control, which overrides Joomla!'s menus. When I say "Components" menu you can read "Extend" menu. It's the same thing. Now that you have an idea on how to read my instructions, please read this, the stuff under "Joomla! 1.6/1.7/2.5 installation problems".

Please note that what you are experiencing is due to a Joomla! bug which I have sent a patch for, twice. They refused to accept my patch the first time and ignored me the second time. You know what? I can't care any more. If this bug results in my software not being visible in the menu it's not my problem because I have no control over it. If you feel as frustrated as I am or even more please complain to the official Joomla! forum and file a bug ticket in the issue tracker. The more people complain about this the more likely it is that a solution (mine or someone else's) will be included in Joomla! in this lifetime. That's all I can do about it :(

Thank you! For what is worth, here's the Joomla! bug tracker item describing the issue and the patch to fix it. You may want to mention that in your posts. I hope that I will live long enough to see this bug fixed... *sigh*
