Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)?yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.26
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.0.91-log
Host: www.startlogic.com sitename: bt.archydolder.com
Akeeba Backup version: Core 3.4.3 (2012-03-21)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hi!
when I perform a "full site" back up the resulting JPA files only 273.57Kb - I was expecting something between 20-30mb.

The issue may be realted to lines 742-743 of the log file:
INFO |120719 07:10:02|Skipping subdirectories of directory <root>
INFO |120719 07:10:02|Skipping files of directory <root>

I double checked Akeeba folder (755) and file (644) permissons - everything seems to be in order.

I examined the "exclude" files feature - I excluded a directory containing large media files, otherwise only the logs and cache folders are marked for exclusion (default setting)

As you can see from the address, the site is in a subdomain (pointing to a folder of the same name on the site)

I installed Akeeba from the Joomla install/uninstall window and performed the post-install configuration wizard. No error messages.

I've performed the back up procedure twice with the same results.

It seems like there must be some simple something not set correctly. In the past I have used earlier versions of Akeeba Core on this same shared server with other Joomla sites that I have installed in sub-domains with no problems whatsoever. The system generated full back ups and I was able to restore the sites on other servers with the JPA and Kickstart files.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Regards,
-AD

This is not a bug, it's a user error I've seen many times in the past :) You have set your site's temp or logs directory to point to the site's root. Please point them to a different directory and retry backing up.

FYI the rule for automatically excluding the configure temp and logs folders from the backup has been in place since JoomlaPack 1.2 (JoomlaPack is the old name of Akeeba Backup), released over four years ago. It's not something that was introduced recently.

Hi! Thank you for the quick reply...

My temp and log settings in the joomla configruation.php WERE:

var $log_path = '/hermes/bosweb/web013/b135/sl.digitalk/public_html/archydolder/bt';
var $tmp_path = '/hermes/bosweb/web013/b135/sl.digitalk/public_html/archydolder/bt';

Indeed, pointing to the root of the Joomla installation. I changed them to this:

var $log_path = '/hermes/bosweb/web013/b135/sl.digitalk/public_html/archydolder/bt/logs';
var $tmp_path = '/hermes/bosweb/web013/b135/sl.digitalk/public_html/archydolder/bt/tmp';

However, now I'm getting a 500 error when attempting to navigate in the site's back end: "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL"

The database error should occur only if you also modified your database connection information in configuration.php. You should check that first so that we can move forward with solving the backup issue.

Indeed, the host URL was incomplete. I must have accidentally erased it.

Changing the paths of the log and tmp variables in the configutation.php file seemes to have solved the problem - a 24.3mb back up file was generated. I'm downloading it now, but I suspect it will be fine when I test it.

Thank you for your quick help and assistance.
