The problem you are experiencing is caused by a failed update of Akeeba Backup. THis can be caused if you were using a version prior to 3.4.1 and upgraded to Akeeba Backup 3.5.x or later, or due to a server side issue at installation/upgrade time.

First let's try to do a "soft" reinstall. This will keep all your settings and backups. Begin with downloading the installation ZIP file of Akeeba Backup from our site. Now go to your site's administrator back-end, Extensions, Manage Extensions and click on Browse. Select the ZIP file you selected and click on Upload and Install.

If the backup still fails we will have to resort to a "hard" reinstall. This will reset all your settings and remove all of your backups. Please download all your backups via FTP in binary transfer mode before going forward with this solution. Go to your site's administrator back-end and uninstall Akeeba Backup. Then install it again.

If the backup still fails please ZIP and attach your backup log file.

Hi

The soft re-install does not work.

I am not clear as to how to de-install Akeeba as I cannot find any de-install option.

Try Extensions, Extension Manager, Manage – just like all other Joomla! components, modules, plugins and templates, Akeeba Backup is listed right there.

Thanks a lot. That seems to work now.

Fortunately it's new site so I had no backups.
