Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)?
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: (2.5.6)
PHP version: (latest)
MySQL version: (latest)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (latest)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
not sure if I am doing something wrong... but I never used this configuration and I am having some issues.
My purpose is to backup a non-Joomla site, using a Joomla intstall on the same account.
Once the backup will work, I want to upload it to A S3... but this comes later.
I installed Joomla on the same level of public_html right out of it, see here:
/home/sdsmuge/public_html ---> the site to backup
/home/sdsmuge/ww2 ---> the joomla install with Akeeba (the directory is accessible from the web).
Site root override is enabled and Force Site Root is set to [ROOTPARENT]/public_html

The backup goes through but something does not work. the site is 500mb and jpa file is 10 to 30 mb.
I already checked exclusios and they are set correctly.
Any hint?
Thanks Carlo

The force root looks correct. Is the "Site root override" checkbox checked? If it's not, you're backing up the Joomla! site.

yes it it (see this screenshot http://polimedia.clarify-it.com/d/fa94d3) but as mentioned, it does not seem to work properly.
Also backup size changes each time in an unpredictable way, see here http://polimedia.clarify-it.com/d/tlzmln the site has NEVER changed, but backup size varies impressively.
Am I doing something wrong?

About the backup size change, you are backing up the backups. Maybe that's the problem all along?

True.. but with override enabled shouldn't it backup only the public_html directory? Don't forget that public_html does not include Joomla site directory and it's about 500MB....

If you don't want me to do some wild guesses you can always ZIP and attach the log file as stated in the default post text :)

Further to that, I need some mandatory clarifications:
- PHP version. There is no such thing as "latest" version. It could be referring to 5.2.17, 5.3.13, 5.4.3 or any other arbitrary release, even those in alpha.
- MySQL version. Ditto. There is no such thing as "latest"
- Akeeba Backup version. None of my releases is called "latest". Technically, "latest" is the dev version I am working on my machine, but I doubt that this is what you're using. I need a concrete version number, please.

MMMM you are right about Akeeb version, it was not the very latest version, it was 3.5.1 and probably had some problem, I updated it to 3.5.2 and now all is working fine, including A S3 upload.
Thanks

You're welcome! I was sure that'd be the case. I remember a couple of versions ago having spotted this issue and fixing it in 3.5.2. It struck me as odd that it had the same issue, despite the fact that the people affected had confirmed the solution ;)

great, sorry I did not think this could be a specific version issue and I did not realize there was 3.5.2 out.
Anyway I am glad it's all working fine now.
