Description of my issue:

Although I've gotten a couple of backups, otherwise it always fails on large tables, like the #__bannertrack table, which has 14 million rows. I can't find any reason why it would have worked a couple of times, but now fails consistently.

After exactly 3 hours and 30 minutes of trying to back up your site, the backup process simply stopped. Most likely your PC went to sleep or you had an otherwise unnoticeable Internet connectivity issue, e.g. your ISP cycling the IP address used by your account. Let's face it. 14 million rows is too much. Even worse, it's 14 million rows of banner track data. Are you sure you want to spend hours upon hours backing up (and restoring, eventually) this information? Why don't you just skip the bannertrack table's contents?

If you really insist on backing up those tables you'll have to ensure a trouble-free Internet connection for several hours, that your PC won't go to sleep and that your host won't kill the backup process because it's consuming too much resources. The first is extremely hard (and insanely expensive), the second is easy, the third can vary from easy to outright impossible.
