Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.5.22)
PHP version: (5.3.10)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (localhost and I also tried my hosting provider)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.3.4)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
After restoring my site I get a 404 - component not found error in the browser. I have tried the two solutions to this error from your website. I tried on both on my local server and hosting server and I get the same issue. What can i do now. I really need this to work locally as I have some mods that I want to do but not to a live site.

Hm, both your Joomla! and Akeeba Backup versions are old and not supported, but this doesn't actually play a part in this issue. Just a reminder, as soon as we fix this issue please upgrade Joomla! to 1.5.26 and Akeeba Backup to 3.4.3.

Regarding your issue, here's what this error may mean:
  • Some files were not extracted correctly. I have no way to know that. I would suggest extracting the backup archive locally using Akeeba eXtract Wizard, then upload all files and folders except the installation directory.
  • The $live_site parameter in your site's configuration.php is wrong. Edit it with a text editor and modify that line to read
    var $live_site='http://www.example.com';
where www.example.com is the domain name of your site. You must include the http:// part, you must NOT include a trailing slash.
  • You have a .htaccess issue. If unsure, try removing your .htaccess, copy the htaccess.txt file from a fresh Joomla! installation package to your site and then rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess.
  • You may also have to uncomment the RewriteBase / line your .htaccess file.

If all else fails, please post back.

Using the Akeeba extract wizard worked but now I have another issue. When I try and install ANY module, I get a "Warning! Failed to move file" and below that a "Unable to find install package"
I tried turning off FTP in the configuration file
I replace the .htaccess file from one from a fresh joomla intsall
I have left the @live_site field in configutaion.php file blank because it is the only way I can get anything to work.

I am trying to load the module "Admin Tools" from Akeeba in order to help me upgrade the current version of Joomla from 1.5.22 to 1.5.26 but I keep getting this error.

The warning you get simply indicates a permissions issue. You have to enable Joomla!'s FTP settings. Pro tip: give configuration.php 777 permissions, enable Joomla!'s FTP settings, then set the permissions of configuration.php to 0644. Otherwise you might now be able to enable FTP in Global Configuration.
