I know ChronoForms allows a user to add comments regarding the specific backup, via the Short description and Backup comment. However that is not enough :)

It would be great to also be able to append an identifier to the *.jpa filename.

Example: site-rowby.com-20120616-100933.jpa is an example of a default file name. However I would like the ability to append something additional to the file name to make the backup name more easily identifiable. In other words, the ability to modify any individual file name, overriding the default file name we had set up in the configuration section.

Example: site-rowby.com-20120616-100933-upload-to-development-server.jpa

or

Example: site-rowby.com-20120616-100933-july-backup-for-larry.jpa

Sometimes when we are in a hurry we need file descriptions that are just a bit more descriptive. Especially when we are using the recommended method of download -- FTP -- rather than the right-click download and can't access the "Short Description" and "Backup comment".

I recently downloaded the wrong jpa file via ftp and uploaded it to another server, causing confusion and headaches. If I had the ability to append a few words to the the file name, during the creation of the jpa backup, that would, I think, make all of us happier!

As a P.S. It would be nice, within the default configuration of the file name for akeeba to translate the month from the number to the actual Alpha name for the month. For example in the configuration for the default file name, instead of site-rowby.com-20120616-100933.jpa, Akeeba would convert that filename to site-rowby.com-2012June16-100933. And so on, automatically, as the months change throughout the year.

Thanks for your wonderful extension!

No, you can't do that. The file name is specified in the configuration of each backup profile. There are many variables supported for the name, including the day, month, year, hour, minutes, seconds, compact date, compact time, random string and so on. Just read the documentation, it's all there :)

Besides, all FTP applications allow you to sort files by date and time. Hint: sort by date/time descending and the latest backup archive is at the top of the list.

HI Nicholas,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I know it can't be done now, it was a suggestion for future upgrade.

Yes I know I can sort by modified date, but still it would be nice to be able to append an additional identifier -- because there are times I don't want to download the latest update. For example, I have a development version of the site in a subfolder, and akeeba gives the subfolder of the site very similar file names. The ability to add a couple of words to the file name can be very helpful -- especially working late at night when the brain is not totally functioning.

In any case your Advanced Akeeba backup presentation really looks good. I am studying it now -- looks like a excellent way to update sites using cloud.

Thanks

It's not going to happen. I won't analyse all the reasons, but let me just say this. Implementing a feature which might serve an one-in-a-thousand case of one particular user and has the possibility to screw up the backup for hundreds of users is not going to happen in my lifetime.
