Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.3.13
MySQL version: 5.5.24-cll
Host: hostek
Akeeba Backup version: 3.5.2

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

When I try to back up it starts to run, then gives me an error page which redirects to the defaults Joomla menu (with URL http://184.175.68.2/~househou/site/administrator/index.php?description=Backup+taken+on+Saturday%2C+23+June+2012+22%3A45 ) in less than a second.

I have been through the quick start and followed all of the suggestions. Directories and files have proper permissions. php memory_limit is 192M. I can not check the Temporary directory because I find no such entry on the configuration page. (Also found that there is no "Database Dump Engine " but the setting is under Database backup engine. Do these pages need to be updated?)

By repeatedly trying a backup, I was able to see "AJAX error" flash by, and I then found https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abbackup.html. I've spent more than an hour trying what is there, and I always get the same quick error screen dumping to the main Joomla menu.

I tried reinstalling, twice, after unpublishing System Restore Points.

Only error in the log is "Akeeba Backup has detected the following potential problems: - 203 Default output directory in use (low) You probably do not have to worry about them, but you should be aware of them."

I am on a preview URL as I am building here while the site is running on another server. I doubt this is an issue, but wanted to mention it.

I installed core, then upgraded without having run or configured core.

Thanks,

nicholas

Sorry, I do not provide support for sites on temporary (a.k.a. "preview") URLs. My experience shows that Apache acts very quirky when using temp URLs to access the site. When you use a regular domain, though, all this quirkiness disappears.
