Description of my issue:
Hi Nick,
I recently opened a shared hosting account with siteground. So I am in the process of transferring my sites form hostmonster to site ground. I was hoping to use Akkeba backup and kickstart but after reading and rereading the documentation I'm not sure I can do that. For me, this may be alittle over my head as I absorbed maybe 70% of the documentation. I was hoping for an easy solution whereby I could upload the jpa file, run kickstart and voila! But I'm not sure that would take care of the databases. As you can see from above siteground is using older php and Mysql.
Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you have extensions which require PHP 5.3, the process is straightforward:
- Backup your site on Hostmonster
- Upload the backup and kickatart.php to SiteGround
- Create a new database on SiteGround
- Run Kickstart to extract the archive and start the restoration
- When prompted, enter the new database's connection information
- Success!

Akeeba Backup has always been designed as a tool to transfer sites between hosts. It just so happened that a subcase of this functionality, backup and restoration on the same server, was most popular. Hence "Backup" in the name.

That said, I believe that SiteGround will enable PHP 5.3 for you if you ask them. PHP 5.2.5 is ancient and not supported by most developers, including yours truly.

Nicholas,

I had only one problem which was on the new server I needed to rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess because I got a 403 error and could not run kickstart.

Let me say this. I am simply amazed how well this worked. In a short time I have moved 2 complete sites which both work flawlessly. Even all the plugins. One of the sites had over 50 pages, a lot for me. Thank you for the wonderful software and especially the timely support (do you sleep?).

Sincerely,

You're welcome and thank you for your kind words!

Amazing as it may seem, I do sleep. I just live on a different timezone :)
