This is a well-known Joomla! bug. My patch was rejected last year. I am now trying to convince someone, ANYONE, with commit access if I should try to resubmit my patch or should I merely keep on bitching about it. Three days later, still waiting on a miracle.

Meanwhile, you'll have to go through the scenic route: read our troubleshooting instructions and do the database edits mentioned there.

Hi,
I tested the upgrade of both Backup and admin on my local host and they worked perfectly, i have used that backup to install live, not sure what went wrong before and i am now a little nervous to upgrade on the live server, can you shed any light on this, has anydody else had problems.
Love the programs there the best i have seen for Joomla users, keep up the great work.

Hi Nicholas,
Should i upgrade manually fron now on?

You can upgrade automatically. The problem's not automatic updates. FWI, the automatic update does this:
- Download the installation ZIP file to your site's temp-directory
- Extracts the installation ZIP file
- Calls Joomla!'s extensions installer to perform the installation
It's the same as the manual update. It merely automates the download part of the installation package. The real problem is JInstaller's lack of roll-back on errors and sub-par error recovery that's plaguing Joomla! since the first betas of J! 1.6.

That's very easy to work around. Go to your site's back-end, Extensions, Extension Manager and click on the Database link. Click on the Fix button in the toolbar.

I think I may have been understanding something wrong all along. Are you trying to update Admin Tools Professional and Akeeba Backup Professional through Joomla!'s own extensions update page? If you are trying to do that, please don't! It can't handle our Professional releases. In order to update Professional releases of our software please use the updater found inside the control panel of each of our components.

The error message you receive is clearly issued by your server. Since I am not your host I cannot help you with that :( Please ask your host for support. Most likely you either have a php.ini file in your site or modified your hosting account's PHP configuration in a way that's forbidden by your host.

Since your hosts forbids you to enter your site, anything which runs inside Joomla! –including our components– becomes inaccessible.

Hi Nicholas,
I have been following your instructions on https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abinstallation.html
On 2.5 i cannot find System - System Restore Points Plugin.
The database elements are not were you say they are
Table jos_assets - Find the row where the name column is com_akeeba and delete it

Table jos_extensions - Find the row where the type column is plugin and the element column is com_akeeba and delete it

Table jos_menu - Find the row where the title is COM_AKEEBA and delete it

Is this information different for joomla 2.5

I have a copy of my web site up to date on localhost, Akeeba backup and admin tools pro are installed and working okay, when i do a fresh backup install using Kickstart i get a blank screen?
Admin tools works okay,
I have asked the server admin to take a look?
What do you think is the problem.
TIA
Dave

Everything in 2.5 is exactly in the same place as with 1.6 and 1.7 and exactly as I've documented them. When you see jos_ substitute it with your site's database table prefix; it may be different.

The System - System Restore Points plugin is something included with Akeeba Backup Professional. If you have not installed Akeeba Backup Professional it won't be there and you can ignore that part of the instructions.

If you want to troubleshoot the installation of Admin Tools, not Akeeba Backup, please substitute com_akeeba with com_admintools and COM_AKEEBA with COM_ADMINTOOLS.
