Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Should I really have to read the documentation when I have not got by installing with either the backup pro or admin tools? Joomla 1.7.3> Upload and install through extension manager, Component Install: Custom install routine failure for Akeeba. Admin tools installs great but doesn't work. Joomla! 1.6.x/1.7.x is not supported by this version of Admin Tools. Please read our release announcement. Do I need to get an old versions of admin tools, didn't see it in my downloads sections. I thought this process would be easy. All my site are 1.5 through. Joomla 2.5 is not available as an update on hostmonster ... that's what I wnat admin tools to begin with.

Hi Mike,

Regarding your first question, I can put it this way. The documentation is written as a means to reduce support requests, documenting the solutions to your usual questions. If it's something you'd ask for support it's most likely something documented. So, yes, reading the documentation is always a mandatory first step. After all, we do have an Installation chapter in there ;)

Regarding your actual question on why can't you install the software. You answered it yourself: the current version doesn't support Joomla! 1.7. In fact, we stopped supporting it since it became end of life back in February. You can install one of the older, no longer supported, releases. Yes, they are not in your My Subscriptions page; this page only displays the latest versions. The entire list of Downloads can be found under our Downloads menu. Look at the top of this page. Hover your mouse over Downloads and click on Admin Tools. Older versions are there. Which version to install? Well, consult our Version Compatibility chart. According to that chart you need version 2.2.a3.

I forgot to say that Admin Tools 2.2.a3 can be used to upgrade Joomla! 1.7 to 2.5. As a matter of fact, that's its intended use.

So after installing 2.2.a3, i was able to update easily to J 2.5 and installing Akeeba backup pro. Sweet!

I need to add the ftp layer to joomla. So I have to say this is the fastest support response I have ever had. My sincere apologies for coming off in an unprofessional manner. I hoping this will resolve the attacks I have been plagued with.

Thanks

Mike

No worries! I'm glad it's all working now :)

Since you're interested in security, I'd urge you to read my Unhacking your site walkthrough. It not only has some useful information for fixing a site, it also provides insight on how to prevent that from happening in the first place.
