Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? No
Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: 3.5.0

Description of my issue:

Further to the ticket 12447, I too have the fail to copy problem but AM using 2.5.4

The error I get is:

-1 - An error has occurred.
Copy failed

Return to Control Panel

Although I am using 2.5.4 it is an upgrade to 1.7 so wonder if that may have a bearing on it.

This is a different issue caused by a wrongly set up tmp directory, unwritable tmp directory or unwritable directories. The troubleshooting steps you have to follow are listed here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abinstallation.html

Sorry but your instructions re the location of the temporary directory do not appear to be relevant to Joomla 2.5 - there is no path listed next to the Cache directory in item 4 so I am unable to proceed any further.

Ah, you're right, they've removed that. Don't worry! There is a different way to figure out the necessary path.

Go to Site, System Information and click on the PHP Information tab. Search this insanely long page for SCRIPT_FILENAME. On its right you will see a path like /var/www/html/mysite/administrator/index.php. Replace the administrator/index.php part with tmp. For example you now have something like /var/www/html/mysite/tmp. That's the path to the temp-directory you need to use.

You can now continue with the rest of the instructions.

I don't seem to be able to modify that path - the listing is just read-only. Or am I looking for an 'edit' button somewhere?

OK, let me spell out all of the instructions, start to finish, to dissolve the ambiguity.

1. Go to your site's administrator back-end and click Site, System Information from the top menu.

2. Click on the PHP Information link

3. Search this page for SCRIPT_FILENAME.

4. Next to it (to its right) you will see a path like /var/www/html/mysite/administrator/index.php.

5. Replace the administrator/index.php part with tmp. For example you now have something like /var/www/html/mysite/tmp. This is your new temp path.

6. Go to Site, Global Configuration menu item from the top menu.

7. Click on the Server link

8. Find the "Path to Temp-folder" and replace its contents with the new temp path from step #5.

9. Save your Global Configuration

I cannot do step 5. The path is read only. Please see attached screenshot.

Step 5 means:

i. Take a piece of paper and a pencil.

ii. Write down the path you see on the screen.

iii. Take an eraser and erase the administrator/index.php part.

iv. Take back the pencil in your hand. Write tmp to the right of what you have on your paper.

v. Now look at the piece of paper. The path you've written is the path you will need in step 8.

Thanks. Understand now. After all that, the tmp path is already set up as it should be. So onto the next step. FTP.

davidanson
Sorry for being a bit of a pain with all this but this installation is on a shared hosting platform which is quite tightly controlled by the hosting provider.

It's understandable, don't worry :)
