Versions

php version 5.2.17
my sql version 5.51.21-55
joomla 1.5
Host: HostGator
Akeeba Backup 3.4.3

issue Description:
First, I am not technical, but I am learning. I have installed the admin tools and backup core on another joomla site (2.5) and it worked as advertised. I bought the professional version because I had a problem on my other Joomla site the one I'm writing about now (http://morevidareviews.com) because I needed a simple backup solution, but this time it is not working out of the box.

I also cannot find the right professional version to download for this site and so I'm using the core version. The backup process hung at 73% and then eventually failed with this message:
AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 0 (timeout)
Internal status: timeout
XHR ReadyState: 0
Raw server response:
undefined

The log file is attached. I appreciate your entreaties to have us help oursleves by looking through the documentation, (and I have to some extent) but I bought the professional version precisely because I prefer to ask rather than do the hunting myself.

I have read your thoughts about Joomla 1.5 and I would happily upgrade, but my developer has made a lot of customizations and he informs me that all of them would have to be re-tested and perhaps even modified to have them continue working. This means financial expense for a site that is not making me money, so I'm reluctant to do it now. I will revisit this in the future, but for now I just need to have a decent backup system so that I can restore the site if it breaks, (which it has twice already).

Would very much appreciate your help.

Until you can get your site upgraded to Joomla! 2.5, let's try some different Akeeba Backup settings to get it backed up. Go to Akeeba Backup's configuration page and use the following settings:
- Minimum execution time: 1 second
- Maximum execution time: 7 seconds
- Runtime bias: 50%

If this doesn't work please ZIP and attach your new log file. Thank you!

You're a genius. How you know what numbers to put in there is amazing. But now this creates another problem. This has spun off fourteen parts (files) each about 2gigs.

I'd like to test that this is really working as I've had an instance of a backup going well but then the site only comes up with the home page working and every other page giving me a 404. Will open a ticket for that one, but the real issue here is the time it will take me to download these 14 files and then upload them to the folder where I can restore them.

Is there any quicker way to test that the backup can indeed restore this site?

He he, after five years of doing this kind of support I have developed a sixth sense for necessary configuration options :)

Regarding the size of your backup, it sounds too bloated. I would suggest using the Files and Directories Exclusion page to exclude directories containing a lot or too big files, e.g. large images, videos or audio files. This will allow you to take a smaller backup which can be realistically downloaded and tested.
