Strange issue:

Install when fine.

I can get to the control pannel just fine.

When I click on any of the icons in the control panel, I get this error:

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.dyntek.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=profiles. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

I uninstalled, and reinstalled. Any ideas?

Joomla! version, PHP version and Akeeba Backup version unknown so I will go with the nuclear option. Remove administrator/components/com_akeeba and components/com_akeeba directories. Make sure you have PHP 5.2.7+ (ideally PHP 5.3). If you have PHP 5.4 it's not officially supported yet. Make sure you have Joomla! 2.5.4. Download a fresh copy of Akeeba Backup 3.5.0 Stable and retry installing.

PHP Version 5.2.13
Joomla! Version Joomla! 2.5.4 Stable [ Ember ] 2-April-2012 14:00 GMT

Akeeba Backup Professional 3.5.0 (2012-05-14)

Is my PHP not supported? It is running on RackSpace Cloud Sites, so there is really nothing I can do about that.

Thank you for your quick response.

Your PHP version is supported. That said, it's an old version which is also vulnerable. You may want to update it.

Regarding your issue, please follow my instructions above. There is a known Joomla! bug which prevents proper updates on some servers. I think that you are affected by it. Doing this kind of manual uninstall/reinstall always helps. The only drawback is that you might lose your settings.

I was able to upgrade to PHP 5.3, and that fixed the issue. I didn't have to do a reinstall, just needed the PHP upgrade. I thought you may want to know incase you encounter this in the future.

Thank you again for all of your help. Your customer service is, as always, excellent.

That's actually very strange. My component does work under PHP 5.2.17, which is the only version I can try on a local MAMP server (I no longer have any live PHP 5.2 servers for security reasons). Normally PHP 5.2.12 to 5.2.17 should have no significant changes which affect Akeeba Backup.
