Description of my issue:
Hello,

I recently updated Akeeba backup to the latest free version. After doing this the install panel said the follwoing errors:
Install path does not exist

The first thing I noticed was that the Akeeba icon had been removed from the Site Control panel.

After installing this update something else happened. I use K2 and the JCE Editor for K2. I also use jce_advlink_k2_2.1.zip with JCE so I can create links etc in my K2 items. Since installing the latest update the Ajax dialogue box does not display the tools any more. It only shows the spinning circle.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled Akeeba, JCE and jce_advlink_k2_2.1.zip but the issue with the dialogue box is still there. Now when I uninstall Akeeba I get this message:
Cannot find XML setup file
Can't uninstall. Please remove manually
Manifest file invalid or not found.

I have since subscribed to Akeeba Pro and this hasn't resolved the issue. I thought I would subscribe because I like your plugins but something has gone wrong with this latest backup and my site is not working smoothly as it did before this backup.

Can you please look into this for me as I rely on your good work for backing up my Joomla websites :)

Many thanks,
Neil.

It's not possible for Akeeba Backup to break JCE. I believe you sent me an email with the same subject. As I replied there, what you describe is a Javascript issue. Possible causes:
  • Use of a script blocker extension
  • Stale browser cache; try clearing it
  • A third party plugin which is interfering with the Javascript on the page

Akeeba Backup doesn't have such a plugin. The only plugin it did have and could cause that is the unsupported Akeeba Backup Lazy Scheduling plugin. As mentioned in our documentation, you should disable it as it's no longer supported and prone to screwing up your site. If this is not the case, you have to find which third party plugin you recently installed is causing this issue.

Regarding the missing menu link, it is a known Joomla! bug I have reported and offered a patch a year ago. Of course it was not accepted, that's why the bug in Joomla! still exists. I have a manual workaround documented in our installation troubleshooting: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abinstallation.html Please follow these instructions to successfully reinstall Akeeba Backup 3.5.0.
