Joomla! version: 2.5
PHP version: 5.3.10
MySQL version: 5.1.61
Host: gigenetcloud
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Can you tell me how to get a backup file out of Amazon S3 and onto my server? I have tried 3 times to download it using their interface and each time it gets to about 50 or 60% after an hour and then says it can't save because it can't read the file.

Can it be ssh'd or scp'd? If so how do we access it since it isn't a regular IP and directory?

Thank you.

Depending on your operating system, you may use one of the following:
  • S3Fox. Firefox add-on, cross-platform (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X).
  • s3cmd. Command-line client, cross-platform.
  • Transmit. Mac OS X, commercial.
  • Cyberduck. Mac OS X, free.
  • CloudBerry S3 Explorer. Windows, has free and paid versions.

Alternatively, you can use Akeeba Kickstart Professional 3.5.1 which sports a handy "Import from S3" feature.

Finally, if you are a Linux geek, you can also set the file's ACL in Amazon's interface to public read, then use wget or cURL to fetch the file to your server.

I meant to update you earlier. I actually realized it was a lot easier than I expected. I just used wget in ssh. I had to remove the permissions for about 5 minutes though because I couldn't figure out how to get it to ask for the key.

I'm glad to hear that Kickstart has an S3 Import feature. Will definitely use that in the future.

Thanks.
