Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.5.19-55
Host: HostGator
Akeeba Backup version: 3.4.3 (2012-03-21)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Two issues
1. cron backup was working fine, stopped (when upgraded to J2.5.4?) log attached
2. upgraded AkeebaBackup from 3.4.2 to 3.4.3 (to see if that helped #1) and lost Pro features. My BackupPro subscription is good until Mar 2013.

I believe you accidentally upgraded to 3.4.3 Core instead of 3.4.3 Professional, or that the Joomla! extensions installer screwed up some files (yes, it does it sometimes). The solution should be rather simple: download the Akeeba Backup Professional 3.4.3 installation package (make sure that -pro is part of the filename) and install it on your site, without uninstalling Akeeba Backup. That should do the trick.

Sorry, I must be missing something.
I am logged in to my subscribed account.
I go to Download | Akeeba Backup, under 3.4.3(Stable) - all I see is 'Akeeba Backup Core', 'Quick Start Guide' and 'Documentation in PDF format'
I do not see any 'Akeeba Backup Professional 3.4.3 installation package '

Try logging out and back in, then go back to that page. The Professional version is the first item at the top of the page. Direct link: https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/akeeba-backup/akeeba-backup-3-4-3/com_akeeba-3-4-3-pro-zip.raw

Let's try a workaround. In the Akeeba Backup Configuration page please use the following settings:
- Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
- Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, max is less than min, not a typo)
- Runtime bias: 50%
and retry backing up. If that fails, please ZIP and attach the new backup log file.

No luck. Log attached.

Your CRON daemon seems to have a time limit of somewhere between 105 and 110 seconds. This means that if a CRON job runs for longer than that (the backup does!) it will halt the backup process. It appears that the only workaround in this case is to either ask your host to increase that limit for your account, or use the third party service webcron.org to automate your backups.
