Description of my issue:

Hey Nicholas,

Yesterday i was at the joomladagen.
ofcourse i bought immidiatly your fantastic admin tools.
thanks for your information!
i just subsribed to admin tools! i used the coupon code but i think something went wrong because i did not get the discount.

But an other question.
I saw you yesterday using akeeba backup with amazone 3.
wat are realy the benefits above dropbox or own ftp?
And if i want to restore something from the backend can i only use full backups?
can i restore only database and some user tables backups with akeeba or is that PHPMyadmin.
yesterday you told that if i maked a backup of the database articles and the client exedently throws all the articles away you can just go to akeeba restore and push a button and ready.
i only can restore .jpa or .zip files so no sql right?
Or am i thinking realy stupid here?
i searched documentation and google about restore and only find the way with kickstart and whole site backup restore. Not just parts of the table wich i backuped in a user profile of akeeba.

Thanks for your reply,
Joris Stolker

Hello Joris,

You were already an AKEEBAPRO subscriber for over 3 months, so you got an automatic discount of 5 Euros (25%), which is bigger than the 4 Euros (20%) of the coupon code. The biggest discount wins. However, since you are an EU citizen without a VIES-registered VAT number I had to charge you 3.45 (23%) VAT, so yeah, the total was 18.45 Euros. The discount was applied, it's the VAT which jacks up the price. Let's say "thank you EU" (you can replace "thank" with any other verb, especially one expressing rage, if you like) for these charges and move on...

The benefit of using Amazon S3 over anything else is pretty much that Amazon S3 enjoys special support in my software. All the magic transfer methods I presented work the best (or only) with Amazon S3. Moreover, the new Kickstart feature works only with Amazon S3.

The only two ways to partially restore a database is a. using the emergency restoration procedure or b. restore a Database Only backup (SQL file). In both cases you either need phpMyAdmin or another database tool. My favorites are Adminer and Alexey Ozerov's bigdump.php. I actually did mention Adminer and I saw some people in the room literally salivating at the idea of having a full database administration panel in a single file :)

Regarding the use case you mention, I was referring to a full site backup. In that case I said that you should have automated, frequent (at least daily) backups so that when a client calls you with something like "oh crap, I deleted all my articles!" you can just log in to his site and restore the latest full site backup.
