Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?) Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting ? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting ? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5
PHP version: 5.3.10
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: VentraIP
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.6

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: I have been able to successfully restore every JPA or zip backup that I have downloaded (even to a subfolder as per our development site) - except for the one I really need (.jpa taken on 20120221-093636). My process is to upload .jpa and kickstart files to server and run installer. Everything is fine up until I click on 'clean'. Once I press clean - I get two options as per usual (i) go to back end (ii) go to front end. Clicking on each option inevitably results in the following (i) a dialogue box opens and asks for username and password. I click cancel and then the website browser says "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request" and mentions a 500 error.

I look at the files in Filezilla - and notice the Joomla files have not been created.

We have not exceeded our disk space allocation, and the PHP memory limit is set to 64MB. I would go so far as to say that this is not a hosting issue, as I successfully restored a subsequent .jpa (as I said, this is the first time we have encountered this issue).

Note: we used to have a password protection on the initial build site, which was implemented through cpanel. The password has never posed an issue for restoration.

Many thanks.

Additional information

I said the following in the initial post: I look at the files in Filezilla - and notice the Joomla files have not been created.

New statement: This is incorrect. The Joomla files did form (it just took time for them to show in Filezilla). This means, I can go to the front end but I get asked for a username and password. I try and use the username and password, which was implemented in cpanel before the site when live (this was deleted when we went live).

I get the error message below. Any ideas?

-----------------------
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Additional information: issue now resolved

The username and password carried across. I found it in cpanel under the new backup (I don't know how this carries across). All done now.

Please close ticket.

Whenever you password-protect a directory, be it with cPanel or anything else, you are essentially creating a .htaccess and .htpasswd file in that directory containing the instructions to limit access (.htaccess) and the encrypted username/password pairs (.htpasswd). These files are backed up and restored by Akeeba Backup. If you want to disable the password protection, you have to remove both files, then create a new .htaccess file to let the SEF URLs work.
