Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.25
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: not sure
Host: GoDaddy - Windows hosted server
Akeeba Backup version: 3.4.0

My colleague was changing the admin password, along with performing Akeeba upgrades and we now have a 500 Internal Server Error. The process went something like this:

Logged into backend interface, went into Admin Tools to allow access to User Accounts, changed admin password, returned to Admin Tools to prevent access to User Accounts, proceeded to Akeeba icon to upgrade and got the 500 error.

I have info.php at the root of the domain, so I have a wealth of information in front of me, but don't know how to gain access to the backend interface. Front end appears just fine.

I have been researching this error and most places point to permissions issue. I cannot change perms on a Windows server, and am having problems getting through to GoDaddy's support.

Is there any way, other than convincing GoDaddy there is a permissions issue, to gain access to the backend interface again?

I tried http://www.yoursite.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=browser&format=raw&processfolder=1&folder=%5BSITEROOT%5D and I only saw the front end of the website, and NOT the file/folders.

Is this a permissions issue or do you need more information?

Thanks for any help out there today.

If this is a perms issue, what else besides /administrator/index.php should I check/change?

If the last he did was to update Akeeba Backup, try removing the administrator/modules/mod_akadmin directory. If that doesn't work, remove administrator/components/com_akeeba. Then install Akeeba Backup again, without uninstalling.

Hallelujah! Removing the administrator/modules/mod_akadmin directory did the trick, although it took me 2 logins to gain access to the backend interface.

Weird.

As always, Nicholas you are a genius!

Thanks a million!

I'm in the backend interface, but when I try to go to Akeeba, I am returned to the 500 Internal Server error.

Everything else seems to be working in the backend though.

I'll try removing administrator/components/com_akeeba and then try installing Akeeba.
I guess I'll install 3.4.0, although I'm not sure it matters at this point.

After deleting the component directory, I have now reinstalled Akeeba 3.4.2 and am now performing a backup.

Thank you so very much Nicholas!
