Description of my issue:

Hi Nicholas

I'm downloaded new version of akeeba backup 3.4.0 and updated my 3.3.13 using > Extensions > Extension Manager > Select file >Upload and Install

Install process finished without errors but in Components > Akeeba Backup > I can see "Update found - click to install new version" -

I'm clicking on it And can see

"new version is available shown" (screenshot)

Clicking

A new version is available
Installed version 3.4.0

When clicking "Update to the latest version >

error appear:

"JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file" and " Invalid package type. The update can not proceed. "

It's propper way to update component via Joomla
Extensions > Extension Manager > Select file >Upload and Install ?
Why I can still see that new version is available?

Log and screenshot attached

Regards

Tepic closed and problem resolved. Please delete my attachment with log file from public. I'm forgot to set "Update only to developer releases > NO" and now update status working fine.

Still have one question:
It's propper way to update component via Joomla
Extensions > Extension Manager > Select file >Upload and Install
or its better to use akeeba backup component update feature?

Regards

Nicholas will have to delete your logfile when he is back online and available.

The suggested method can be either one. Akeeba Backup is tied into the Joomla Extension update as well as through its own control panel. In practice, I've usually done the one in the Akeeba Backup Control Panel is the most reliable way since Nicholas has built it into his product for that reason.
