Description of my issue:
Just upgraded Akeeba backup to 3.4, and am getting error when I try to get to Akeeba on back end. I also can't get to the Joomla! install/uninstall extensions page. I can get to the rest of the back end. The ugprade was done from within the extension.

Read through troubleshooter, but I am not dealing with a restored site. The front end is fine and I can get to everything but akeeba and the installer/uninstaller on the back end.

I believe that you have a broken installation. The workaround is simple (and I probably have to add it to the troubleshooter). Just remove the plugins/system/srp.php file; this will give you access to the extensions installer. Now install Akeeba Backup again (download from our site and install on your site, without removing the existing installation) and the problem should be fixed.

Removing that file did let me get to the install/uninstall page again. But then installing akeeba pro 3.4 (downloaded from site) again led to the same issue.

I have tried Akeeba Backup 3.4 on PHP 5.2.17 and 5.3.10, using Joomla! 1.5.25, 1.7.5 and 2.5.1. I am unable to replicate this issue. Normally using any PHP version after 5.2.7 should not make any difference. Moreover, this only seems to happen on Joomla! 1.5. At least all five reports of this issue I've had talked about Joomla! 1.5 and an older version of PHP. Hm, apart from a conflict with a third party plugin I can't think of anything else. If it was triggered by just Joomla! 1.5 or by just a PHP version, I should be able to replicate this on my test servers.

Okay, how should I proceed? You might get more reports in the next few days from more people, maybe that will help?

Well, certainly having more reports may allow me to spot a pattern. So far I know that it happens on some Joomla! 1.5 sites, the PHP version is irrelevant (I've seen anything from 5.2.10 to 5.3.8) and the previous Akeeba Backup version is, also, irrelevant. So, I'm now plucking hairs off my butt, trying to guess what might be the differentiator. Let's see, do you by any chance have Akeeba Backup's Lazy Scheduling plugin (plg_aklazy) enabled on that site?

no, lazy backup not enabled.

Akeeba Backup 3.4.0 is not compatible with the "System - Legacy" plugin shipped with Joomla! 1.5. In order to regain access to the back-end of your site, please delete the plugins/system/srp.php file and the administrator/modules/mod_akadmin directory from your site's back-end. At this point, you have two choices:
a. Go to Extensions, Manage Plugins, find the "System - Legacy" plugin and unpublish it. This plugin is only required when you are using extremely outdated software which was initially compatible with Joomla! 1.0. If you are not using such software, just disable the plugin.
b. If you are using such outdated software (and you can't update them), do not disable the plugin. Instead, uninstall Akeeba Backup 3.4.0 and install an earlier version, e.g. 3.2.7. IMPORTANT: Older Akeeba Backup versions are NOT supported and you will have to downgrade at your own risk.
