TL;DR: Read the sentences in bold type. Everything else is good to know but not critical.
There are no release notes for this update because any update method will work once you've already upgraded to 8.1.0. Having upgraded to 8.1.0 means that we have migrated all critical data out of the plugin's folder. We no longer care if WordPress or anything else deletes the plugin folder.
Nominally, upgrading from 8.1.0 to 8.1.1 is done by going to Akeeba Backup and clicking on Update Found. It will download and install the update. This is, let's say, the "canonical" method.
You can very safely use WordPress' Plugins page, Add New, to upload the new version and confirm that you want the version to be replaced. Nothing breaks. I manually tested that over 100 times in a dozen different configurations.
You can of course also update by extracting the ZIP archive; this method is always supported, it's our safe fallback, and is normally not necessary. We only had to use last time because we needed to put new code into your site to move files out of the plugin's folder, but all the other upgrade methods offered by WordPress would delete the plugin's folder before running our new code. Therefore, we used our safe fallback to solve the chicken and egg issue.
When 8.1.2 is released at some point in the future you will also be able to use the update link which will appear in the Plugins page of WordPress, as well as WordPress' Updates page. We re-enabled our integration in 8.1.1 which means it will be available in the upgrade from 8.1.1 to something newer, whenever that will be available.
