I took a backup of my site prior to upgrading to v8.0 of Akeeba Backup Pro. I then updated by uploading the plugin zip file over the top of the 7.9.1 Pro plugin in the WordPress plugins screen. After doing so, Akeeba took me to a configuration window when I went to the admin back-end, where I was then asked to "configure" Akeeba. Clicking this took me to a page where it just sat for about 1 hour doing nothing. When I try to go to Akeeba's admin page again, I just get a white screen. If I clear my browser cache and try again, I get to the main Akeeba screen where it tells me that it is not configured properly, that it is using the default backup path.

I have setup a php script at https://www.deepskyvineyard.com/craig.php that will display phpinfo for you if that will be helpful in anyway...?

I don't know what else to do...

So upon further troubleshooting, it appears that Wordfence did not like some updates? I am not sure whether it was updating my php version to 8.1 from 7.4 or the Elementor plugin, Jupiter X Core, Akeeba to 8.0, or a combination of all or what...but I have had to completely manually remove Wordfence, delete db tables, tweak .htaccess and suddenly all seems to be working? Though I am having to reconfigure my backup profiles as my Google Drive config did not stick.

I do still see the "newer version" message after everything is up and running. Should this have gone away? I did successfully execute a backup and it was pushed into our Google Drive location, so I call that a win! I am going to attempt to install Wordfence once again...wish me luck!

It looks like the old settings encryption key was not transferred over to the new location after installing the update, that's why you lost your settings.

I am thinking that some files may have not been copied over either, since you had all those troubles.

Download the ZIP file of the plugin from our site.

Extract it on your local computer.

Upload the contents (files and folders) of the extracted akeebabackupwp folder into your site's wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp folder.

Go to your site's wp-admin and click on Akeeba Backup from the sidebar. This should run any post-upgrade tasks which might have not been executed still.

The new version warning should automatically disappear after 6 to 24 hours (these are the default and maximum caching time of updates, respectively).
