My backup to Amazon S3 has stoped working after upgrading Akeeba backup to the latest version. I get the following error message:

Upload cannot proceed. Amazon S3 returned an error message: 0 :: Akeeba\Engine\Postproc\Connector\S3v4\Connector::uploadMultipart(): [35] OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_ZERO_RETURN in connection to s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com:443 Debug info:
Failed to process file /home/mintevni/public_html/wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp/app/backups/site-www.minterapeut.no-20171213-194302cet.jpa
Post-processing interrupted -- no more files will be transferred

I have triple checked my settings. Access Key, Secret Key, Bucket name, and Region

I have several sites where I have upgraded Akeeba backup to the latest version, all using Amazon S3 as Post-processing engine, but this is the only site that don't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advice.

It's neither your fault nor our code's. Your host seems to have an outdated version of OpenSSL, the library which is used under the hood by PHP to create a secure (HTTPS) connection with Amazon S3. You need to contact your host. They have to update the OpenSSL library on their server, compile the cURL library against the new OpenSSL library and finally compile PHP's cURL module against the new cURL library.

There might also be a different issue with the same symptoms: the host might be using a firewall which blocks outbound communications. Please explain to your host that you are trying to upload stuff to Amazon S3. They should know what to do. If they ask you for an IP address explain to them that Amazon S3 uses geographic DNS routing. Cisco Meraki (one of the leading cloud hardware providers) has some excellent documentation on the subject.

I hope this information helps!

Yes, it helps a lot :-)
My ISP updated the SSL and it works perfect again.

Thanks for looking into this.
