Unfortunately I have been having several issues with updating Akeeba Backup for WP. The following symptoms have manifested:

  • System does note recognise that there is an updated version
When update information is updated and an update is completed successfully, the system does not recognise that the update has occurred.
As per the previous item, but the system reports that a neww\er version is available, but it is shown as an earlier version
The most recent version 1.0.6 errors out during the update process.

I transitioned from the Joomla version, and would really like to continue using it on WP, so I hope you can help me. I am not sure if it is relevant, but I am using a number of security/speed optimisation plugins including WordFence, Autoptimize and Cloud Flare.

Regards
Michael

It seems most likely that the problem is due to your speed optimisation plugins, most likely the caching performed by CloudFlare. It's never a good idea caching the administration section of your site, no matter if you are using Joomla!, WordPress, Magento or pretty much anything.

That said, you can apply the update manually very easily. Just follow the manual installation instructions for WordPress: Extract the ZIP archive of the latest version to your computer. Connect to your site by FTP and go into the directory wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp. Upload all extracted files and directories into this directory. Then go to your site's wp-admin and run the Akeeba Backup plugin. It will perform any necessary changes automatically.

IMPORTANT: You can not and MUST not try to update Akeeba Backup Professional through WP's plugin page.
