Hi,
I have admin tools pro. I went in to update one of my sites to 2.1.2 via Joomla install/uninstall and my whole site has crashed. I can't login to back end and can't see front end.

I have this error on both front and back end of site: Warning: require_once(/home/xxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_admintools/models/storage.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/xxx/public_html/plugins/system/admintools/core.php on line 43

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/xxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_admintools/models/storage.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/xxx/public_html/plugins/system/admintools/core.php on line 43

Please help. Thank you!

Don't panic. That's a partial upgrade (one file didn't get written by Joomla!) but we can work around that easily.

First, renamed plugins/admintools/main.php to main-old.php. This will allow you to access your site's back-end. Download the ZIP file of Admin Tools 2.1.2 from https://www.AkeebaBackup.com/latest and login to your site's back-end. Go to Extensions, Install/Uninstall and install the Admin Tools 2.1.2 ZIP file (you must not uninstall the existing version for if you do you'll lose all your settings!). That's it. You should now be back in business.

I've been in via FTP and all the files in the components/com_admintools folder are GONE! and there is only one file "admintools.xml" in the administrator/components/com_admintools folder.

Yeah, that's Joomla! screwing up the upgrade. Occasionally, the Joomla! extensions installer (JInstaller) library will pooh on its pants and decide to delete entire component directories. That's a known issue with Joomla!. Please follow my instructions above and you'll be back in business. Despite killing the files, the JInstaller library does not remove the database tables where all your settings are stored. And now you also know why all your settings are stored in the database and not in a file inside the component's directory ;)
