Hey all,
This weekend I installed:
Akeeba Admin Tools Pro to a site.

I also installed sh404 SEF. To same site.

I used the htaccess maker from admin tools pro on the site.

Everything seems to work fine except for now I cannot see or use the GD library in the site for captcha on forms. Hence the forms broke until I turned off image verification.

I do not know why this disappeared as it has been working fine with chronoforms until this weekend.

I apologize that I am not a code guy. I don't quite know where to turn but wonder if the htaccess maker had something to do with it. I can't just turn off or uninstall sh404sef as the site is very busy during the week. BUT - it seems to be doing it's job fine.

Looking for help for initial trouble shooting.

Joomla is current and hosted on Rochen.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Note: I am simply reposting some information I submitted to the ticket with the same topic for the benefit of future searches.

It's not exactly that. Admin Tools does not disable the GD library, but it may disable rogue PHP files if you use its .htaccess Maker feature. Most CAPTCHA implementations I've seen use such files to render their images. I suggest first trying to follow the advice on the user's guide: http://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/admin-tools/server-protection.html#determine-required-exceptions

Hah! I did it! Man-man - if you knew how code-illiterate I am. To do this is huge.

How freaking cool is that.

What happened was this: I put the image verification BACK in one of the forms I am was using.

I went to Chrome in windows on my Mac (VM WARE FUSION) - and followed the instructions.

I reloaded the page and it threw up two flags - one for chronoverification.php and the other for template.css

I added an exclusion for:
components/com_chronocontact/chrono_verification.php

Rebuilt the htaccess and POOF - it worked. I still don't understand the template.css error - but will look at it now.
