I am using an ICe Theme template. I ran the .htaccess maker and it cause my template to not work. I did as it suggested and removed the .htaccess file but it did not fix the problem. I have tried many different options and still no fix.

I did manage to get the template working again, but I cannot use the .htaccess maker. I have tried numerous options and have the same problem all the time. Have any suggesations. Thanks

Do you have a .htaccess file at all right now? Some hosts do not support Apache's mod_rewrite, used for SEF URLs and all of the .htaccess Maker's features. If you are not sure, take Joomla!'s htaccess.txt and rename it to .htaccess. If that causes the site to return a white page, I suggest moving to another host a.s.a.p. In any other case, post back for further instructions.

The default .htaccess works fine but when I still have the problem with the .htaccess maker. I am reviewing the documentation again and trying some things. Let me know if you have suggestions. Thanks

As I say in the documentation, the best approach is to start by disabling all options in the .htaccess Maker and letting it create a .htaccess file. This is equivalent to using Joomla!'s stock .htaccess file. Then, start enabling one feature at a time until you see which one causes the blank page. Most likely it's the follow symlinks, expiration or redirect index.php to root.

I did as you suggested and I now have the .htaccess maker working. The problem was with the "Server Protection" and "Front End Protection" option. Once I turned that off it worked fine. SO Ice Theme templates have a problem with this setting. All fixed thanks for the help.

Hm... not really. The rules are very protective by design, but we have step by step instructions for figuring out the exceptions required.

While you're at it, you might also want to let the ICEtheme guys of the exceptions required, in case they can work around them. One thing they can't really work around is their GZipper for CSS/JS files which requires direct access to rogue files all over the place. IMHO, this is a security hole and should not be used. If you allow access to files all over the place it's very easy to get hacked. Just my $0.02 :)
