hi.

i purchase admin tools professional some time ago and was wondering it there will be an update to go with j1.6.

also, it seems like the new joomla has added many new features that are similar to what admin tools does. will admin tools still be useful for j1.6?

Admin Tools is already compatible with Joomla! 1.6, as you can see in its extensions.joomla.org page. Version 1.1.2 installs fine on Joomla! 1.6.0. You may also find a very updated version (still in development) in our developer releases section.

Is Admin Tools still relevant? Tell me if Joomla! 1.6 has any of the following features: password protection of the administrator directory, database maintenance, integrated upgrade which actually works (Joomla! 1.6's is not tested and breaks on hosts which don't support URL fopen wrappers), changing the database prefix, changing the administrator ID, off-line mode which doesn't allow a hacker to run blind SQL injection attacks, .htaccess Maker to protect your site against unknown threats, changing permissions on the fly for all files and directories without FTP, cleaning the temporary directory, changing the database collation, on-the-fly link replacement for migrating sites to new domains, IP white-/black-listing, bad words filtering, blocking visitors by country of origin, logging security exceptions and auto-banning IPs of repeat offenders, protection of the back-end login with a query parameter string, email notification on failed and successful administrator logins, SQL injection protection (that one was denied from being included in Joomla! 1.6), malicious user agent blocking, CSRF/anti-spam protection for all public forms, remote file inclusion protection, direct file inclusion protection, customization of generator tag, disabling editing Super Administrator users with a password, GZip compression and PHP header customization, system template (tmpl=foo) prevention, core template (template=foo) prevention, Bad Behaviour integration and Project Honeypot integration. Of course it doesn't so, yes, Admin Tools Professional is more than relevant on Joomla! 1.6; it's essential for site security.

Just to say I added Akeeba (Pro) to my brand new J1.6 setup) with no problems whatsoever.

I was so moved (!) that I followed the link to rate it on Joomla extensions. Well ... that tells its own story!! As far as I can see, every rating has the full 5 stars and the reviews/comments are similarly maxed out. Not hard to see why!

On a new 1.6 site, when I install Admin Tools Pro (2.0.1 downloaded Mar 15, 2011, a 1,236 KB file) I get an error message "Error building Admin Menus" plus a message "Installing component was successful." But then Admin Tools is not listed in the dropdown list under Components. This installation problem occurred when using Joomla 1.6.0, then after upgrade to 1.6.1, and it also occurred when I instead tried to install Admin Tools Core 2.0.1 (downloaded Mar 18, 2011). Any ideas?

This is a stupid Joomla! 1.6 bug that has no solution yet. Using phpMyAdmin, issue the following SQL command:
DELETE FROM `jos_menu` WHERE link LIKE '%com_admintools%';

Then, try installing again. It will magically work.

Do note that this is a bug in Joomla! 1.6, not Admin Tools. It only happens occasionally, when Joomla!'s extension installer drops the ball for no apparent reason, causing it to leave behind invalid data in the database, effectively blocking the installation of the affected component until the above SQL command is manually issued. If you feel that this bug should be rectified, please post a bug report in the Joomla! Bug Tracker. Unfortunately, resolving this bug is not something possible on our end as it does not happen inside our own code.
