I just upgraded to RC1. When I tried to password protect the administrator area, whenever I visit www.mysite.com/administrator, I simply get a 404 error. I have ARTIO JoomSEF installed so maybe that is causing the problem.

Can you try removing the .htaccess and .htpasswd files from the administrator directory? If this restores your back-end functionality, it means that your server does not support the password protection feature of Admin Tools.
