#39743 Password protect admin error

Hi Nicholas,

Didnt spoke long time ago i hope you are well.

I have some small issue with admin tools.

Really strange issue.

So the issue is when i enable password protect admin, its locks me out.

I mean i set password and enable the function and then its locks me out and ask the username and passowrd - what is normal so far - and then when i want to enter my username and password, its not accepting it.

Please believe me i know the password and the username i just configured. Im using password manager so its 100 percent that i enter the correct username and passord.

Still its not accepting me anymore.

I needed to rename htaccess to be able to login to the admin area again.

 

I tested it several times with different passwords and so on but always this same result.

Im using admin tools for years without any issue, so im pretty sure its not caused by admin tools instead something is wrong on my side..

Could you please give some tip what can be possibly wrong here?

Let me know if i need to sent some log or some other file to help you in this

If your server only supports the old, obsolete, and insecure UNIX crypt method it only supports passwords up to 8 characters long and has restrictions on the characters which can be used. 

Otherwise, your server does not support the password hashing method (APR1) we are using.

Thank you for your response, i tested with a simpe password because you are right we use a very long password.

Unfortunately this did not solved the issue.

Also important to mention we have a dedicated server, and all the other website there has also admin tools installed on it.

On all those website we also use extra long passwords there and its working since day one without any issue.

Important to mention all the other websites where its working correctly are joomla 3 website.

 

The website where we face with this issue is a joomla 4 website, we just migrated from joomla 3

Is that not possible that this is some kind of core joomla 4 issue?

Also i have some log sent by admin tools A PHP Exception occurred on your site. Here you can find the stack trace.

 

But i dont know how to attach as its public here and the log is full with confidential info

The change from Joomla 3 to 4 didn't make a difference. The last change in this feature was applied to both Admin Tools 6 (for J3) and 7 (for J4/J5).

Have you tried changing the “Reset custom error pages” option?
