We have a custom Joomla component which has a form that allows uploading images. Once uploaded, its stored in a folder under public_html. If admin tools .htaccess is enabled, it doesn't allow accessing those images from web. I am using the default .htaccess for the images to work for now. How do i fix this issue?

Note that 'fix permissions' tool of admin tools doesn't fix the issue and i have gone through the admin tools options but couldn't find any setting that could be causing this issue. I am pretty certain I am missing something here.

Thanks.

As you can read in the documentation, that's why the .htaccess Maker has the option “Front-end directories where file type exceptions are allowed”. This option has existed since Admin Tools 1.0.0 back in September 2010. So, as far as I can tell, it's an issue solved 12 1/2 years ago.

Also note that the way you implemented your component is wrong.

User uploaded media files are supposed to be stored either in the images folder (if they are supposed to be manageable by Joomla's Media Manager), or in an extension-specific subfolder of the media folder (in all other cases). This has been true since Joomla 1.5.0 released in 2007. Hopefully by the end of the year we'll be able to redo the Joomla developers' documentation to highlight this and other facts which should have been obvious 15 years ago but were so ill-documented that nobody ever really caught on to.
