I have problems in upgrading a site from J4.1.6 to J4.2.6, and I get an error message saying that Joomla cannot communicate with the file administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/extract.php. I have been informed that I should disable Admin Tools and reset the htaccess file to default. However, this caused that I get "No input file specified" both in frontend and backend.

I have now uploaded a backup using Kickstart, but when I reached the Clean Up step nothing happened even though I pressed the button several times. When refreshing the screen, I have now been locked out of backend. I thus went to the file manager in order to diable Admin Tools, but in the plugins/system/admintools folder there is no admintools folder and no mail.php file.

What do I do now? How do I disable or install Admin Tools so I can access the site again?

Hello,

just to be sure, did you use Joomla default .htaccess file and you get the above error?

I suspect there's some extra directive needed by your host to handle PHP files, which you have in Admin Tools but not in the default .htaccess file. In this case it's easier to manually add an exception for the file administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/extract.php inside the Htaccess Maker, rebuild the .htaccess file and try again. That should fix your issue.

I cannot remember if the htaccess file was generated from Htaccess Maker or if it was the default fil, but I think that is was the default htaccess file.

My problem right now is that I cannot access backend so I cannot get access to Htaccess Maker. I have also uploaded the backup file on another server with the same result, i.e. lockout of backend and no admintools folder in the plugins/system/admintools directory.

Under Joomla 4 there's a different folder structure for Admin Tools, please take a look at this page of the docs: https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/admin-tools-joomla/atwafissues.html

Thanks for the link. I had not noticed the new structure.
