I purchased the Joomla 4 Admin Tools as a package with the Backup Tools primarily to have assistance with creating a safe HTACCESS file for the site.  This a challenge for me as it pushes me into more advanced hosting details than my skill set is up for, but willing to learn.

After completing the Admin Tools Wizard I see in my public_html folder both a .htaccess file and an .htaccess.admintools file.

I'm not certain if these both should be here or I should delete the .htaccess file and rename .htaccess.admintools file as .htaccess.

I had placed the default Joomla .htaccess file prior to installing and running Akeeba's Admin Tools.

Or perhaps I should delete both files and re-run the Akeeba Admin Quick Start.

Thanks for any help on this and sorting through the fog on complexity using these new and powerful tools to protect my site.

We explain that in the documentation but I don't mind explaining it further.

Every time you generate a .htaccess file with the .htaccess Maker feature we do two things. First, we rename the existing .htaccess file under the name .htaccess.admintools which is not loaded by your server. Then we create the new .htaccess file.

But why, you may ask. If something goes terribly wrong —e.g. some feature was incompatible with your server setup, you mistyped something in the custom .htaccess code fields, etc.— you can quickly go to your hosting control panel's file manager, or your FTP/SFTP client to remove the .htaccess we created and rename .htaccess.admintools file back to .htaccess on the basis that this was the last known good version of that file. This way you quickly regain access to your site, minimising the downtime.
