Arhat

Hello,

I have the latest admin tools on my site. Recently on July 4 my .htaccess was modified, but not by me. I am using Cpanels on go daddy. I am getting an internal server error .500 and my error log is showing the following:

public_html/.htaccess: </IfModule> without matching <IfModule> section, referer: https://shumsanctuary.com/

I checked my htaccess for missing <IfModule> tags but couldn't find any. I don't know if this can be an admintools issue, but I cannot access admin tools to generate a new .htaccess file. Can you help?

Thanks

Arhat

Hello again,

I found the </Ifmodule> tag that was without an opening in my sites .htaccess and cleared it but to no avail. The site is still down, I was able to contact Godaddy support who confirmed their servers are running ok and pointed me to native.php line 260:

// Ok to try and start the session
if (!session_start())
{
throw new RuntimeException('Failed to start the session');
}

// Mark ourselves as started
$this->started = true;
}

I am reading the joomla forums and learning about sessions handling. If you can help please let me know, I've read that Admin Tools has a sessions handler that I can use to optimise the process, but for now I have no access to the site's frontend nor backend.

Thanks.

Hello,

there's no need to get into session management rabbit hole. Let's try something easier: please replace your current .htaccess with Joomla default one. Then access your backend and regenerate the .htaccess using the Htaccess Maker.

Is that working?

Hi Davide,

Thanks for your reply, I tried that but still no luck, still getting the internal server error. I tried main-disable.php, that didn't work. Do you think I can use the other method as in the tutorial using the link sent to the email to access Admin tools back end?

Thanks again,

Guha

You do not have to rename the Admin Tools plugin system, you have to replace your current .htaccess in the root of your site with Joomla default one.

Can you please let me connect to your site so I can do that for you?

I have made this ticket private so that only you and me can see the information posted here.

Please provide me with the following information:

  1. The URL to your site's administrator login page
  2. Super User username and password
  3. FTP connection information

Please allow up to one business day (GMT+2 timezone) for me to log in to your site and debug this issue. When I'm done I will post back. Once the issue is fixed, you can revoke my access e.g. by changing the Super Administrator and FTP passwords.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In order for me to help you fast and accurately, please provide the information by copying the form below, paste it into your reply and fill in the information:

----- Access Information Form -- START -----
Super Administrator access

  • URL to site's administrator page (e.g. http://www.example.com/administrator?foobar):
  • Super User username:
  • Super User password:

FTP connection information

  • FTP methods supported (e.g. FTP, FTPS, SFTP):
  • FTP Hostname:
  • FTP Username:
  • FTP Password:
  • FTP Port (if other than 21 for FTP and 22 for SFTP, ask your host):

----- Access Information Form -- END -----

Please make sure that you have tested the Super Administrator connection using a different browser or machine than the one you are using daily. Double check that logging in is possible and that the user has Super User privileges, i.e. it's not a regular Administrator. Make sure that your site does not block whole countries or IP ranges which would make it impossible for me to log in / connect by FTP. Finally, please do make sure that the FTP connection works and that logging in to it I have access to your site's files.

Kindly note that your site connection information and your site content is handled in strict confidence. Not only we are a reputable development company, we are also bound by law (EU GDPR) to do so. After you file your reply, the connection information to your site will be stored in an encrypted, hidden storage area on our site and will be automatically deleted when this ticket is closed. Finally keep in mind that the people providing support to you are the same developers who wrote the software you're using on your site.

Hello Davide,

Thank you so much, my site is up and running because of your advice, last night, being conservative I tried by swapping the htaccess with one of my other parked domain on the server instead of the root, thinking it should work the same. Now my site works and I used admin tools to create a new htaccess. I will be checking all my other sites later and I am grateful for your help. I will be monitoring the htaccess closely to see if the issue occurs again, but I believe it is part of Godaddys hosting upgrades, they have only recently given the option to upgrade to php 8.

By the way Admin Tools is awesome. I am surprised by the number of attempts at hacking the site daily.

Sincerely,

Guha
