Luk

Hello,

I am a newbie with AT-pro and still in a learning process. So sorry if my question is a bit stupid.

I went through the quick setup on 4 sites (3 https: // - live sites and one 4th http: // - development site), set a secret url parameter and ran htaccess-maker.

When I want to log in to the BackEnd, I get the following message at the 3 https: // live sites, which I did not receive before the installation of AT-pro. I don't get that message at the 4th site.

Authentification necessary - Mozilla Firefox. https: // xxxx asks for a username and password. The website says “Restricted Area”.

When I enter the required data, I can continue to log in. If I cancel the following message appears:

Unauthorized
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

When logging out the backend and relogging in (without closing Firefox) the message does not come, but when I close Firefox and open it again, the message is there again at log in.

I would like to know where this message comes from, what it means and how I can possibly disable it.

It comes from the Password protect administrator feature. It simply creates a .htaccess and .htpasswd file in your administrator folder to enable Apache's Basic Authentication access control for that folder. Note that dot-files (files whose name starts with a dot) are hidden by default on Linux servers which is why you might not see them.

You can disable it either from the Password Protect Administrator option in Admin Tools or, if you're locked out of your site, manually per our documentation instructions.

Firefox's behavior is explained by the fact that Firefox remember Basic Authentication credentials while it's running so you don't have to enter them on each and every page load as well as CSS, image, JavaScript etc file being downloaded from the site's administrator folder. If you want to log out of Basic Authentication there is a way to do so manually.

I hope this information helps!
