Hi,
after updating Admin Tools Pro from 5.2.1 to 5.3.0 the site is immediately down (HTTP ERROR 500). Tried this process 3 times after restoring the site. Always same result.

I appreciate your help.

That upgrade should not cause any problems. This isn't a normal or known problem.

First, clear your browser cache. That solves a lot of problems after an update.

Second, since it's throwing a 500, swap your .htaccess file with htaccess.txt (that's the Joomla! standard .htaccess file).

OK, let's try disabling Admin Tools with the instructions here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/atwafissues.html, starting under the blue Tips box, labeled "Using FTP to regain access to your site's administrator".

Didn't worked. I uninstalled Admin Tools Pro and reinstalled back. Looks fine.

Thanks, guys!

Admin Tools is not causing the problem. We've disabled Admin Tools by renaming a key file. The two other parts are both .htaccess files, which are static during the upgrade. It can't be Admin Tools.

You need to look at the server error log. There will be more information there than you see on the screen. The 500 error is intended to be vague. It doesn't give away any information to an attacker that manages to trigger it. The real story is in the server error log.

I'm not blaming Admin Tools. I'm just explaining what I did since I wasn't able to figure out the issue. This same behavior happened in other site.

Sites are working fine and using the last version now.

Thanks.

This happens when you install the latest Core version on top of an older Professional version. This is not supported. In these cases you should delete the folder plugins/system/admintools and install the new Professional version, without uninstalling Admin Tools before (that would make your settings disappear).

My guess was along with what you said, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the confirmation, Nicholas!
