Admin Tools .htaccess is blocking access to various files in root, e.g. sitemap.xml, Google Search Console verification file and various other files accessed directly by typing in the url and filename in the browser address bar.

When I disable Front end protection in Admin Tools, the problem goes away.

If I delete the .htaccess the problem goes away.

If I use the standard Joomla .htaccess, the problem goes away.

If I add an exception (specific filename) in Admin Tools Server Protection, the problem goes away.

Any ideas please what is causing this?

That is the expected behavior for recent version of Admin Tools. For files outside of the normal /images and /media folders, you need to set up a specific exemption in .htaccess Maker to allow them to be accessed.
