FYI: when I start File scanner I can see this error in modal window:

AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4

Hello,

thank you very much for your report.
After some tests, we found that old versions of PHP have a bug in the Regular Expression engine, causing PHP to crash.
We removed such scanning rules and we're going to release a new version next week, in the meantime you can download and install the latest dev release
