Hi

At the moment, I make any changes to my site on Localhost and then upload to my server. However, to make it work, I don't use Admintools on my localhost but only on the server.

It is a lengthy process because I have to remove Amintools from the server, upload any changes and the database and then re-install Admintools on the server.

Is there a way to install Admintools on Localhost and then just upload the database or is it more complicated than that?

Many thanks in advance, David

David,

I'm not sure why you have to uninstall Admin Tools to transfer your changes to your live server. What problem are you having that makes you uninstall Admin Tools?

There are two major components of Admin Tools, Admin Tools itself and the .htaccess Maker, which replaces your .htaccess file with an enhanced version. If you are uninstalling Admin Tools, you are only disabling the Admin Tools part, you could do virtually the same thing by disabling the System - Admin Tools plugin. From your description of your process, you aren't doing anything with your .haccess file during your update.

Hi Dale

Appreciate the fast response.

I do backup and restore the .htaccess which Admintools has modified by the way.

I presumed that I couldn't install Admintools on Localhost and the server, make any changes to the database on Localhost and then restore the database on the server.
I thought that there would be issues with the WAF Administrator secret URL parameter. Are you saying that I can just use
http://www.example.com/administrator/index.php?test and
http://localhost/site_Joomla/administrator/index.php?test
and they will both work fine?

Then the only thing I would have to worry about would be the .htaccess ?

Best regards, David

David,

The secret URL parameter should travel just fine between the local and live installations. The .htaccess file frequently has to be regenerated when you change servers.

The Password Protect Administrator feature does not travel well between servers. The format of the .htaccess and .htpasswd files change based on the version of Apache server being run. Admin Tools generates the file in the proper format for the server it finds. That would just be a matter of deleting .htaccess and .htpasswd from the /administrator folder and generating them again on the new server.
