Hi,

Suddenly, and for a few days, Admin Tools prevents the Regular Labs Extension Manager from working.

I installed a new Joomla and the updates are normally done, but as soon as I install Admin Tools Extension Manager stops working. I have this problem even when I completely disable Admin Tools. The only way to fix it is to uninstall Admin Tools, which is obviously not a good idea.

Have you heard of a similar problem? I will also write to Regular Labs for their opinion.

HI

This is the answer I received from Regular Labs. What do you think ?

Admin Tools is probably blocking the calls the Regular Labs Extension Manager is doing to the outside server.

Ask Akeeba about how to switch that off or fix it.

Thank you for help.

Let's make sure that the problem is indeed caused by Admin Tools. In order to do so, try the following:

1. Try setting the Error Reporting level in your Global Configuration to "None". Many errors are caused by harmless PHP Notices and Warnings being output to the browser, breaking anything which requires HTTP header manipulation such as Joomla!'s session management, AJAX calls and download systems.

2. Try to replicate the issue after disabling the "System - Admin Tools" plugin. If you can still replicate the issue, it is not caused by Admin Tools. Disabling that plugin means that Admin Tools code (including the Web Application Firewall) is not running on your site.

3. If you suspect an issue with the .htaccess file, replace its contents with the contents of the stock htaccess.txt file shipped with every version of Joomla!. If you are on GoDaddy please wait for 1-30 minutes for the changes to be effective. Then, retry loading the problem page. If you can still reproduce the error, then it is not caused by .htaccess Maker.

If doing any of the above resulted in the issue still occurring, it's not related with Admin Tools and we can't help you. If doing any of the above did stop the issue from occurring, we'll have to do some troubleshooting.

First go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF. Make sure "Log security exceptions" is set to Yes; if it's not, set it to Yes and click on Save. Now try reproducing your issue. Immediately after that, please go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Security Exceptions Log. The latest log entry at the top should have the date and time of when the issue occurred. Please copy the Reason and Target URL here so that we can further help you.

If, however, you do not see a log entry, or the Date and/or IP address do not match your last access, this problem is not caused by Admin Tools' WAF. In this case, you will have to do some .htaccess troubleshooting. You may need to read the general .htaccess troubleshooting page, as well as the page on finding out necessary .htaccess exceptions.

I should also note that I have installed Regular Extensions' Extensions Manager and I cannot reproduce the issue. I have enabled pretty much every feature I could think of, including the protections in the .htaccess Maker. I can list, install, update and uninstall Regular Labs extensions just fine.

Also note that Admin Tools CANNOT possibly block communications to an external server. This is something that only your host can do.

Something doesn't quite add up in what you are alleging is going on. Please do follow the instructions I gave you above. Your issue appears to be completely unrelated to Admin Tools. If I were to make a guess, I'd say that between installing Regular Labs Extensions Manager and installing Admin Tools (or noticing the Ext Man not working) you have done something else. If I were to try and guess what that would be I would guess it's something to do with your .htaccess or changing the PHP version on your site (which also modifies .htaccess). It's possible that by doing that either PHP has a slightly different configuration (e.g. missing cURL which is used for communicating to an external server) or a .htaccess flag to tell your server to not block outside communications goes missing. Please note that if you follow the default options of the Quick Setup Wizard you are using the .htaccess Maker feature of Admin Tools which does overwrite your .htaccess file.

So, please do follow the instructions in my last post. My suspicion is that the issue is server-related and has to do with your .htaccess file.
