 Hi,
I need to transfer a site locally to test some changes, what do I have to disable/change in admin tools to be able to access admin area before backing it up with akeeba backup?

Thanks in advance
Omar

Omar,

You do not have to disable anything in Admin Tools to take a backup.

When restoring to a different server, there are several things that could potentially cause problems. First, the password protection for the /administrator folder is sensitive to Apache versions, what works on one version may be the wrong format for another. Admin Tools takes the version of Apache into consideration when it creates the files for the password protection. If it doesn't work, you would simply rename /administrator/.htaccess after your restore.

In a similar vein, your main .htaccess file may contain directives that your new server doesn't support. Getting around that should be a matter of simply renaming the .htaccess file in the root of your site and replacing it with htaccess.txt in the root of your site. That is Joomla!'s default .htaccess file. We use that as a "known good" .htaccess. It doesn't contain any of the enhancements of the Admin Tools version and so it rarely causes any problems.

Each of these are only possible problems, most of the time it just works.
