I just updated my site over the weekend to Joomla 3.7.2 and Admin Tools to 4.2.0, among other extensions. Everything is up to date now. I updated by taking an Akeeba backup of the development site and installing it using Kickstart Pro.

The problem is that I'm getting an error message in Admin Tools: "Invalid or unwritable Joomla log directory." When I looked initially at the Global Config log path, it had a long detailed path that included user numbers and such. I have tried changing the path several different ways, both detailed and simple, and can't find anything that Admin Tools doesn't complain about. I've tried creating a new directory but it doesn't like that either.

The weird thing is that is *is* recording exceptions and shows recent entries (since I uploaded the latest version of the site) in the Security Exceptions Log page in the log in Admin Tools, so it must be storing them somewhere, even if it's saying it can't work with the Global Configuration log path. I want to make sure I have accurate logs to keep track of what the "bad guys" are doing, so I'm baffled about how to read these apparently conflicting things (saying it can't access the log dir but still showing log information). This wouldn't be one of those 3.7.x problems, would it?

Your help would be most appreciated. Let me know if you need anything else from me to help diagnose the problem. Thanks!

In Admin Tools there is a button "Temp and Log directory check" that will tell you what the settings should be. Unfortunately, mine is clearing the box so fast I can't read it. You can just keep hitting it until you can make it out.

Huh! Well that worked, but it was the same path that was already there after I installed the site from Kickstart, and at that time I was getting the error message. Now I am not. So I don't know what kind of magic wand you must have used, Dale, but it worked. ;-)

P.S. I was able to grab a screenshot of the window using the Windows Snipping Tool (in Accessories). Load the Snipping Tool, hit Escape, then click the Admin Tools button to display the directory. While it's visible, do Ctrl-PrintScreen and it will freeze the window while you take a screenshot (or just copy the path). Voila! :-)

Thanks much, as always, for your help! :-)

The devil is in the details, for example, "log" vs. "logs" is a big deal if you have Plesk host software.

That was a very clever way of catching the path!
